My training plan totally on it's head....

Post  Lovegrove on Mon 4 Aug 2008 - 12:23

Hey,

Finally got some access to a computer now, so will be checking out the site a bit more.

I originally had a programme done by Alex a while back, and had absolutely fantastic results. I have now moved area, and for the next few months I am not going to be able to afford a gym membership along side my training fees. My questions are as follows;

  • I'm considering spending out a little bit on a kettle bell to do some training outside. What is a good weight to start at, or is it a case of just trying out a few and going with what suits? Also, is there any other cheapish equipment things people use or would recommend. I'm currently doing running and bodyweight stuff in a park near me in the mornings, so I would have to take stuff with me.

This question is aimed a bit more at Alex. Now that I am trying to come up with a routine for a few months while a I save up some money, are there any particular principles I should be considering? Or could I just try and match the new routine as close as possible to my current plan?

Many thanks in advance,

Chris

I've read that an 'average' guy should start at 16kg, dunno if that helps? Being a girly I bought an 8kg and it is way too light, I wished I'd got a 12kg one to start with. If you are going to do swings I would go heavier, you could do with a couple of different weights for different exercises.

I would recommend resistance bands for taking to the park, I can personally recommend the bands Alex sells, they are great value and perfect for what you would need.

For the price of a kettlebell, i suggest you buy:

1 duffel bag from army suplus store
1 roll of garden waste bags (thick bin liners)
about 8 rolls gaffer tape
50kg sand

make 3 x 10kg sand parcels and 4 x 5kg sand parcels.

put one liner inside another, add sand, twist closed, turn inside itself, twist closed, turn inside itself etc etc
wrap gaffer tape all around parcel so no bag is visable.
