Strength & Conditioning For Fighters - Seminar

Post  Alex Gold on Mon 5 May 2008 - 20:24

I am doing a seminar soon in Chippenham for VTJJ, Leigh Remedios' gym. Here is what Leigh has to say about the advice I gave him.

"Alex helped me with my strength and conditioning preparation for Cage Rage and was hugely beneficial. When I was training full time and living alone, I could wake up at 9am, do 3 hours, sleep in the afternoon and do another 3 hours in the evening. I had plenty of time and energy to do weights, running, swimming, sparring, bag work, plyos, bungees etc etc

However, now I have a family and a full time job, my time is a lot more limited, so I spoke to Alex about structuring my training efficiently. It was easy to follow his advice because it made sense. So much so, that I'm bringing him down to my gym to do a seminar for us. TBH, I was a bit unsure as to what he would do - you can't do conditioning for 3 to 4 hours. But I think quite a lot of it will be informative, so bring notebooks! The cost is £20 in advance or £30 on the day and Alex has given me a brief outline of what he will cover, listed below:-

Intro:

  • Stressors and recovery overview
  • What is needed to train MMA?

Main Body:

  • Physical attributes (overview and ideas how to train for)
    · Strength
    · Power
    · Speed
    · Stability
    · Aerobic power/capacity
    · Anaerobic power/capacity
    · Flexibility
    · Special Physical Preparedness training for MMA

  • Putting it together – the plan
    · Weekly cycles (microcycles)
    · Monthly cycles (mesocycles)
    · Long term cycles (macrocycles)
    · Goals of training and how best to achieve them

  • Odd object training (kettlebells, sandbags, sleds etc.)
    · Benefits
    · Drawbacks
    · How to add it into your training
    · Where to find stuff on a budget

  • Performance nutrition

  • Recovery modalities

  • Supplements

Conclusion:

  • Recap of important points

  • Q&A on any related topics
"

There will also be breaks for practical demonstrations of concepts discussed during the seminar.
