Tread mill running

Post  Bengdogg on Mon 30 Mar 2009 - 13:10

I know a guy who is a friend of a friend and he has recently bought a £1k running machine/treadmill to use at home. Anyway since buyng the damn thing my poor mate has to constantly listen to how awesome and fit this guy is cos he can run 6 miles on it. Am I on my own in thinking that tread mill running is nothing like real running I used to go running its hard, ive ran on tread mills, its easy, real running has headwinds, curbs, chavs, rain and angry dogs. A machine just feels like im bouncing on the spot. Cycle training devices (turbo trainers) are popular for winter training with roadies but they arn't a substitute for the real thing. So to surmise should this guy just STFU and have his mid life crisis quietly or am I being harsh Twisted Evil

Pretty much on the ball. On the road you need to propel/pull your whole body through the stride, on a machine all you need to move is your legs whilst the ground moves underneath you.

Its probably 6k and not miles at all! and he has probably left out the fact it takes him all day to do it!

The only good thing about tread mills is when someone falls over in the gym
