Alex, would it be possible to weld a handle similar to the prowlers low handle to my sled so i could do some pushes as well as dragging? My knowledge of metalwork/welding etc is zero so wondered if you had a view before i went any further down this route? Would the metal the sled is made with hold a weld, would this be sufficient for me >100kg to try and push serious weight around on it?

Conditioning Ideas

Can anyone give me some ideas for conditioning? Basically I am after ideas that can be done in my garage which is tiny! the space I have to train is about 7'x6'. I have been coming up with some ideas, and usually I just go outside but I wanted a few more options/ideas for inside.

I have oly bar and weights, squat rack, couple of bands, 4k & 2k med balls, 8k KB, DB handles, a box for jumping on or over! a sledge hammer, trampoline, a spin bike (didn't realise I had so much stuff lol). ...

since starting judo, i've obviously been training barefoot, in the past when doing CJJ i wore wrestling boots.
i'm find that my feet, ankles and calfs feel battered after a judo session and i spend a lot of the time when going for throws on the verge of cramp in my calfs.

I am doing a seminar soon in Chippenham for VTJJ, Leigh Remedios' gym. Here is what Leigh has to say about the advice I gave him.

"Alex helped me with my strength and conditioning preparation for Cage Rage and was hugely beneficial. When I was training full time and living alone, I could wake up at 9am, do 3 hours, sleep in the afternoon and do another 3 hours in the evening. I had plenty of time and energy to do weights, running, swimming, sparring, bag work, plyos, bungees etc etc

However, ...

I am trying to lose a fair few pounds of fat and I'm thinking of going to the gym say 2-3 mornings a week and doing a lightish weights circuit for say 40 mins then doing another 40 mins or so in the supposed " fat burning " zone hoping this will help shed a few extra pounds of fat over the next 9 weeks.

I am doing a lot of other stuff during the week, intervals etc so Is there much point in me doing both ? I know it has been proven that hiit is just as good if not more effective ...

I'm competing in this www.toughguy.co.uk in the middle of July, so have around 13 weeks to get ready.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ubwfhWl7D3o

it seems to basically be a cross country run followed by two laps of a big assault course.

I'm fairly fit, been doing mma 3 times a week, power lifting background and still quite strong for my weight (78kg),

any suggestions as to what might be the best way to get prepared for something like this?

I'll put a journal up if anyone fancies ...
